Join Maine Guide Patrick O’Shea for one of these introductory Fly Fishing Classes and learn what Fly Fishing is all about.

Everyone knows what fishing is, however Fly Fishing is an entirely different sport - it is more than simply dropping a line in the water with some bait. Fly fishing got it’s name because imitations of insects such as mayflies, and many other small bugs are used to attract fish. These intricate little creations attach to hooks of varying sizes and they are called flies.

Intro to Fly Casting
Another important part of fly fishing is casting. What you are trying to accomplish when Fly Casting is to imitate a fish’s natural food as it dances on the water. You are basically trying to outsmart, or trick, the fish. In this one hour class you will also have an opportunity to learn the basics of fly casting and get a chance to practice with feedback.  You can bring your own rod and reel or use equipment supplied by Gorham Rec and the instructor.
May 15th with a rain date of May 22
