Community Garden

This program is currently unavailable. Click here to view all of our current programs.

The two obvious benefits of community gardens are the beautification of space and a strengthened sense of community. But the impact of a community garden can also be educational and benefit our local food pantry. We are offering individuals and community organizations the opportunity to adopt a garden bed for a growing season. The plot coordinators will decide what to plant and what to do with the produce. There are no fees for use but all beds must be cleared off all plants by Oct 31 or a $50 clean -up fee will be charged.

Participants will agree to:

  • have something planted in the garden by June 30th

  • weed, water and maintain garden

  • keep the area around the plot free of garden related clutter and trash

  • pick only their own crops unless given permission

  • plant tall crops only where they will not shade neighboring plots

  • will not use fertilizers, insecticides, or weed repellent

  • will put away hose and lock water pump

  • will have garden cleaned out by Oct 31

At the end of the growing season, gardeners are responsible for clearing their plot of all plant material and leaving the plot as they found it in the spring. All gardens should be cleaned out by Oct  31

There are 8 beds in Robie Park. Gardeners must sign a contract granting garden use for one season. Current plot holders may begin renewal of their plots starting Feb 1.   All renewals must be received by Feb 28. Any plot that is not renewed by that date will become available for use by new applicants beginning March 1.

New Applications are accepted after Feb 28 and reservations are taken  first come, first served.  Garden use is not guaranteed every year,  although preference will be given to those who have maintained the gardens as specified by the contract and registered by Feb 28.

Gorham Recreation reserves the right not to renew garden use for those who have failed to observe the community garden rules. Plots may be forfeited during growing season if user fails to comply with garden rules.

There are plans to install community garden beds at Little Falls Activity Center Spring 2016.
